'Alianza' calls for Guatemalan government to fulfil budget pledges to forestry programmes - 4 July 2011

On 4 July 2011 the National Alliance of Community Forestry Organizations (the 'Alianza') published a public statement in Prensa Libre - a national newspaper - calling on the Guatemalan authorities to honour their financial commitments to the National Institute of Forests (INAB) and two important forest financing mechanisms: PINFOR and PINPEP.

Guatemalan government signs cross-institutional agreement for management of natural resources - 1 June 2011

On 1 June 2011, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA), the National Institute of Forests (INAB), and the National Council for Protected Areas (CONAP), signed a four-year agreement of cooperation with regards to the conservation and sustainable management of the country's natural resources.

Regional workshop to review and update forest policy in Guatemala - Quetzaltenango, April 2011

A regional workshop to share the findings of a recent evaluation of forest policy in Guatemala was held in Quetzaltenango on 29 April. It was one of a series of workshops being held to gather proposals from a variety of different forestry organisations across the country for updating the forest policy which was established 10 years ago.

(i) adjusted its timeline and contractual ToRs in six institutions to
accommodate Ministerial desires to have a draft National REDD Strategy by the end of June 2010

(ii) prepared and present two background papers, the first on baselines and monitoring reporting and verification (MRV) and the second on possible options for the scale and scope of REDD within Mozambique;
